| The stately looking school house on the hill in Philipsburg is one of Montana's great landmarks. Thanks to the effort and foresight of Joe Johnson, the building has been restored and its character enhanced with literally thousands of antiques, art, rare and unusual western and mining artifacts, along with vintage items that you won't find any other place. TODAY, The School House Museum is open for tours (by appointment). Constructed in 1912, the 'Schoolhouse' was in service until the 1970's. Soon after it's closure, it was sold into private ownership. Converted to a home in the 80's, it is now renovated as a LIVING MUSEUM. Each room has a theme from a past period of time. Whenever possible, all items are fully functional in original working order. Each room has some memento to remind you that you are in an 'Old Schoolhouse'. Many Antiques and unusual artifacts are available for sale at the museum and online. A sampling of items available for sale can be viewed by clicking ANTIQUES. Many more items are for sale, however it simply is not possible to list them all. The museum curators are always buying “new” antiques. Perhaps one of the more exciting events in Philipsburg are the WESTERN AUCTIONS held in the Assembly Room of the School House Museum. People come from all over the country for the opportunity to personally OWN some of the finest quality western antiques. The current schedule is posted on the AUCTION page along with pictures once the items have been consigned to the auction. If you have any item you would like considered for the auction please contact the Museum for review. We invite you to begin a virtual tour by entering the Museum HERE. |
